● Fugui Cape Lighthouse
The lighthouse at Fugui Cape was built by the Japanese in 1897, painted black and white to be more visible in fogs. It was also equipped with a fog horn for warnings in thick fogs.



The lighthouse marks the northernmost point of land of the island of Taiwan, and has been an important landmark. It has been renovated, but its function of guiding ships remains. Standing firmly on the cape, it lights up the northern coast.

The Fugui Cape Lighthouse is a must-see landmark in the north shore. Built in Japanese colonial times for facilitating establishment of submarine communication cables, the lighthouse is known for its special exterior and over 100 years of history. Its interlaced black and white colors and octagon structure make for an eye-catching appearance. Its deed of guiding ships throughout the past hundred years is also long remembered by navigators.

The abundant ventifacts scattered around the area are another attraction here in Fugui Cape. 8 hundred thousand years ago, large amount of andesite rocks formed from Datun Mountain"s lava were carried to this place. During winter, strong northeast seasonal winds carrying sand will cut these rocks and turn them into ventifacts with irregular sharp edges. Because of the presence of ventifacts, sand hills and green reefs, Fugui Cape is very special when compared with other seacoasts in Taiwan.

● Fugui Cape Park
Fugui Cape was previously called “Dabin” or “Dabian,” and described as “hoek” (cape) by the Dutch in the mid-18th century. The name was later transliterated to be “Fuji,” and then the latest “Fugui.”

Fugui Cape Park is full of rocks weathered by winds bearing sand of fine grains. Blown by strong winds for a long period, the top part of the tree groups in the park has fewer branches and leaves than the lower part. This fact is described as the branches and leaves being trimmed with scissors, called “Fengjianshu (Wind-cut Trees) in Chinese.
